Sheppards Point Water Outing August 21st

Photos Thanks to Jean Dick, Jody Hamilton, & David Morris.

The club outing to Sheppard Point Recreation Area at Heyburn Lake on Sunday, August 21st was a good one. Could not ask for a more perfect August day in Oklahoma. Clear sky, bright sunshine, low humidity, a high temperature of 84°, and fairly cool lake water. And the ITTHC did gain a new member at the outing, please welcome Sheila Carver to the club. Hope that with all the “expert” advice she was given, that a few tips were picked up. For her first water hunt she had 3 Mercury dimes & 1 prize token, not bad.

And not a bad moon rising, but a good moon rising over the peaceful waters of beautiful Heyburn Lake.

As you will tell by the beach photo Heyburn Lake was down about 2½ feet. Before the planted hunt this made for some older maverick finds from areas you normally might not get to. Two of the better items were a 1942 high school class ring and a nice silver with inlay Indian bracelet. There were also some older coins found.

Friends – Food – Fun – Sun:

The club supplied hamburgers, hot links, hot dogs, buns, condiments, & chips. Roger Eaton again handled the cooking. Good job Roger and Thanks again! And Thanks again to John & Jody Hamilton for picking up the grill & tables from the ITTHC storage building and taking them back. There were 34 members standing in line to chow down on burgers, hot links, dogs, and the outstanding food assortment brought by club members. Thanks to all those bringing the great side dishes and desserts. If you went away hungry at this outing, again it was your own fault.

After the big feed there were scattered as evenly as possible 194 tokens in a 40 yards X 60 yards designated area. There were 26 member donated prizes, and 150 tokens for Silver dimes, 12 tokens for Silver quarters, and 6 tokens for Silver half dollars. When the start signal was given there were 25 water hunters frothing the water. After 1 hour+ of hunting, all but 2 dime tokens were not recovered. Tokens were painted Wheat Cents, painted pulltabs, painted & numbered .54 Minie’ bullets, painted dug up Indian Cents, and painted Shield Nickel.

Again, one of the main reasons for this type of outing, besides the food of course, is also, the fun and fellowship of being with people that enjoy the same hobby. And to give non-water hunting members a chance to try their hand at it. There are always extra water detectors & scoops available for use, so if you have not tried water hunting come on out & try it, you might find you like it.

Again, if you missed this outing, you missed a great one. Don’t miss the next one!
