Flat Rock Creek Water Outing on July 23rd

Bright sunshine, a good strong breeze all day, high temperature 99°, and lukewarm water to cool off in, the club outing to Flat Rock Recreation Area at Fort Gibson Lake on Saturday, July 23rd was still a good one. A few members let a little Oklahoma summertime weather scare them off, as we had 15 that had signed up turn out to be no shows.

Friends – Food – Fun – Sun:

The club supplied hamburgers, hot links, hot dogs, buns, condiments, & chips. Greg Wicks with the help of several others handled the hot job of cooking. Good job guys, Thank You! Thanks to Bill Watkins & Lloyd Coke for picking up from the club’s storage building and bringing, and taking them back the grill & tables! Thanks to John Freeman for picking up and hauling the food, supplies, extra scoops, and one old guy to the outing.

There were 18 members standing in line to chow down on burgers, dogs, and food brought by club members. And we did have plenty of leftover hamburgers, hot dogs, & hot links. Thanks to all those bringing the side dishes and desserts. If you went away hungry at this outing, again it was your own fault.

After the big feed there were scattered as evenly as possible 179 tokens in a 50 yards X 30 yards designated area in the lake. There were 14 tokens for member donated prizes, and 150 tokens for Mercury Dimes, 10 tokens for Silver Quarters, & 5 tokens for Silver Halves. The tokens were painted 3 color Wheat Cents, painted 2 color pulltabs, painted dug up Indian Head Cents & Shield Nickel, and painted/numbered/lettered Civil War Bullets.

When the start signal was given there were 15 water hunters frothing the water. After 1 hour+ of hunting 2 of the prize token bullets, 12 of the tokens for Mercury Dimes, 2 tokens for Silver Quarters , & 1 token for a Silver Half were not recovered. The muck, junk, & rocks account for the unrecovered.

Christy Wicks 6 Mercury Dimes & 1 prize token.

The winner of $15.00 in the 50-50 Raffle was Pam Cook. Thanks to Wally Dick for running the 50/50 raffle.

Again, one of the main reasons for this type of outing, besides the food of course, is to give non-water hunting members a chance to try their hand at it. Also, the fun and fellowship of being with people that enjoy the same hobby.

Again, if you missed this outing, you missed a good one. Don’t miss the next one!
