The City National Bank Plate
In Response To: Return to LeB Coal Mine Number 1 ()

One of the best finds of the day was the City National Bank, South McAlester, I. T. name plate off of either a canvas or leather bank deposit bag found by Doug Fry. Included is an extract from “The Commercial & Financial” of 1903 showing the charter of the City National Bank of South McAlester, Indian Territory in 1902. The bank was chartered with a capital of $50,000.00 which was quite large for the day in Indian Territory. Both E. N. Allen and Frank Craig were very wealthy investors in both the coal industry and financial business in Indian Territory. The artist rendition of the City National Bank is from a postcard. And the $10.00 bank note that was the first to be issued by City National Bank after Oklahoma became a state November 16, 1907.
