2014 Fall Club Member Only Hunt Roundup

Photos provided by John & Jody Hamilton and Howie Rosser, Thank you.

The hunt was held Sunday, October 19th at the Creek County Fairgrounds. And we could not have had better weather. Thanks to those that were out there early helping with stringing the fields, burying the coins, setting up the building, cleaning up the building, and all the other jobs that had to be done for this event to be a success.

And the most important segment of the Fall Hunt, the food! There were 45 ITTHC members lined up for this banquet. There was a great spread of food again. (I could not even sample all of it, but made myself miserable trying!) We probably should have had a second feed after the main hunt. Thanks to all the cooks that made it possible and that includes all you guys that had entries in the “Bobby Crocker” dessert contest.

Winners in the “Bobby Crocker” contest were: 1st – Charles Bohuslavicky. 2nd – Mike Mitchell. 3rd – Bruce Martin. Thank you Rachel Hayworth for organizing the “Bobby Crocker” contest. It was all OUTSTANDING!

Thanks to Roger Eaton & John (JJ) Freeman for planting the Deep Buried Competition Hunt this year. This is a Competition Hunt where the Quarter size targets (1 point) & the Dime size targets (3 points) are buried 6+ inches deep. The top finishers are those with the most points after the 45 minute hunt. And the winners were: 1st Place with 18 points - Lloyd Coke; 2nd Place with 17 points - Lester M. Taylor ESQ; 3rd Place Tie with 11 points - Bob Cook & John Ehmen. This hunt is a good test of man & machine.

The club allotted $200.00 to purchase prizes for the hunt. Jim Nobles did another good job on the selection of prizes purchased and working the prize board. There were also club member donated prizes including the Garrett ACE 250 donated by Len & Jean Eames. Thanks to all those that donated prizes to the hunt. The prize tokens were stamped and painted Silver Mercury Dimes & Silver No-Date Standing Liberty Quarters. This year's hunt also had $353.00 from the August & October Silent Auctions added to purchase coins & prizes over the entry fees collected. Plus the $400.00 in Silver Coins from the cancelled September Water Hunt were also added in above entry fees. This year’s total value in coins, purchased prizes, & donated prizes was $2,100.00+

In the Main Coin/Prize Hunt there were a 34 entries. The hunt field was 50 yards by 90 yards. There were 840 Silver Dimes in the hunt, which included Roosevelts, Mercuries, & a fair amount of Barbers; 16 Silver Quarters, & 7 Silver Half Dollars. If we got everybody’s count right there were 14 Silver Dimes more found than we buried. All of the Silver Quarter & Silver Halves were found. There was a total of 56 prizes. All of the prize tokens were found. The big winner of the Garrett Ace 250 donated by Len & Jean Eames was Bob Cook, is this guy on a roll or what? If you size the hunt field correctly for the amount of entries with a crew like ours, most of the buried items will be found & sometimes more than you buried.

Some of the higher totals found: John Hamilton 50 Silver Dimes, 1 Silver Quarter, 2 Silver Halves, & 5 prize tokens. John Freeman 42 Silver Dimes, 3 Silver Quarters, 1 Silver Half, & 3 prize tokens. Lloyd Coke 42 Silver Dimes, 1 Silver Quarter, & 2 prize tokens. Bill Rouse 41 Silver Dimes, 1 Silver Quarter, & 3 prize tokens. Bruce Martin 40 Silver Dimes, 1 Silver Quarter, & 3 prize tokens. John Hayworth 36 Silver Dimes, 1 Silver Quarter, & 4 prize tokens. Cody Reese 37 Silver Dimes, 2 Silver Halves, & 1 prize token. Lester M. Taylor ESQ 34 Silver Dimes, 1 Silver Quarter, & 2 prize tokens. John (JJ) Freeman 31 Silver Dimes, 1 Silver Half, & 4 prize tokens. Jim Nobles 33 Silver Dimes, 1 Silver Quarter, 1 Silver Half, & 1 prize token. These are some of the folks you want to watch to improve your techniques in this type of hunt.

Thanks to Gary Young for the great job running the Kids Hunt. It appeared that all of the kids were prize winners and had a great time.

The 50/50 raffle had great club member support. Jody Hamilton was the big winner in the 50/50 raffle of $51.00! Thanks to Jean & Wally Dick for running the raffle.

If you missed the 2014 Fall Club Member Only Hunt, you missed another good one. Hope everyone had a great time.
