Hot Fun in the Sun!

Bright sunshine, high temperature 91°, and warm water, but the club outing to Flat Rock Recreation Area at Fort Gibson Lake on Sunday, August 17th was still a good one.

And it was a perfect weekend to spend cooling off by camping at the lake.

The club supplied hamburgers, hot links, hot dogs, buns, condiments, & chips. Roger Eaton & Cody Reese handled the hot job of cooking. Good job guys, Thank You! Thanks again to John Freeman for picking up and hauling the food, supplies, extra scoops, club grill & tables. And Thanks again to John Hamilton for taking and storing the grill & tables.

There were 43 members standing in line to chow down on burgers, dogs, and food brought by club members. Thanks to all those bringing the OUTSTANDING side dishes and desserts. If you went away hungry at this outing, again it was your own fault.

After the big feed there were scattered as evenly as possible 243 tokens in a 40 yards X 70 yards designated area. There were 15 tokens for member donated prizes, and 228 tokens for Silver Dimes, Silver Quarters, & Silver Halves. The tokens were painted Wheat Cents, numbered Jefferson Nickels, painted square pulltabs & painted/numbered/lettered Civil War Bullets.

When the start signal was given there were 29 water hunters frothing the water. After 1 hour+ of hunting only 1 of the prize token bullets and all but 3 of the tokens for Mercury Dimes were not recovered. There were several coins, a few junk jewelry items and assorted junk that were also found.

Member donated prizes: $5.00 donated by Charly & Doris Bohuslavicky won by James Marcum. Tape Measure donated by Lloyd Coke won by Lloyd Coke. Walking Liberty Half donated by Wally & Jean Dick token not found. $5.00 donated by Jean & Wally Dick won by Mathew Fanning. $5.00 donated by Jim & Ralphetta Dill won by John Hamilton. Some of the higher totals found were: James Marcum 15 Mercury Dimes, 2 Silver Quarters, 1 Silver Half, & 2 prize tokens. Ken Fanning 17 Mercury Dimes, 1 Silver Quarter, & 1 prize token. John Freeman 14 Mercury Dimes, 3 Silver Quarters, & 1 prize token. Wally Dick 15 Mercury Dimes, 1 Silver Half, & 1 prize token. Bill Rouse 16 Mercury Dimes. Chuck Marcum 11 Mercury Dimes, 1 Silver Quarter, & 2 prize tokens. Bob Cook 12 Mercury Dimes & 1 Silver Quarter. John Hamilton 9 Mercury Dimes, 1 Silver Quarter, 1 Silver Half, & 1 prize token. John E. Freeman (JJ) 10 Mercury Dimes & 1 Silver Quarter. Greg Wicks 8 Mercury Dimes & 1 Silver Half.

The winner of $30.00 in the 50-50 Raffle was Sandi Sisco.

And as the Sun set slowly in the West everyone left with a full belly and a smile on their face!

Again, one of the main reasons for this type of outing, besides the food of course, is to give non-water hunting members a chance to try their hand at it. Also, the fun and fellowship of being with people that enjoy the same hobby.

Again, if you missed this outing, you missed a great one. Don’t miss the next one!
