Great Way to Spend a Summer Afternoon

August 24th Water Outing to Heyburn Park Beach

Photos furnished by Daniel Parker, Captions ????????

The club outing to Heyburn Park Beach (“The Big Beach”) at Heyburn Lake on August 24th was a good one. The high temperature was around the 90° mark and nice cool water in the swimming area. We had the pavillion reserved (Thank You Jean Dick) and a good 10 to 15 mph South breeze most of the day.

The club supplied hamburgers, hot links, hot dogs, buns, condiments, & chips. Bob Avey, Roger Eaton, & Cody Reese handled the cooking. Good job guys and Thank You. Thanks again to John Hamilton for storing and trucking the club gas grill & tables to the site.

There were 46 members standing in line to chow down on burgers, dogs, and food brought by club members. Thanks to all those bringing the outstanding side dishes and desserts. There was again a GREAT assortment side dishes & deserts. If you went away hungry at this outing, again, it was your own fault.

After the big feed scattered as evenly as possible were 193 tokens in a 40 yards X 60 yards designated area. There were 16 tokens for member donated prizes, 158 tokens for Silver Mercury dimes, 14 tokens for Silver Quarters, & 5 tokens for Silver Halves. When the start signal was given there were 28 water hunters frothing the water. After 1 hour+ of hunting, all but 1 dime tokens was not recovered. There were over 30 “maverick” coins that had been there for a while and a few jewelry items. Jim Nobles hit a coin spill spot that had a $1.00 coin, 2 quarters, & several other coins. Jim also had a spinner wedding band style ring that was either stainless steel or titanium. As you can see, no matter how good you think you cover an area there is always something left.

Member donated prizes: 1972 Proof Set donated by Terry Archer won by Ken Fanning. Auto Shade donated by Lloyd Coke won by Greg Wicks. $5.00 donated by Jean & Wally Dick won by Bill Watkins. Jean & Wally Dick had the 50/50 raffle up and running. Thd big winner was John Hamilton with $38.00. Congratulations John.

Again, one of the main reasons for this type of outing, besides the food of course, is to give non-water hunting members a chance to try their hand at it. Also, the fun and fellowship of being with people that enjoy the same hobby.

Again, if you missed this outing, you missed a great one. Don’t miss the next one.
