"Justa Playin' N' The Rain"

July 21st Outing to Flat Rock Recreation Area

The club outing to Flat Rock Creek Recreation Area on Fort Gibson Lake was another good one. It was decided that when Oklahoma needs rain, the ITTHC will schedule an outing to Flat Rock Creek Recreation Area. As it did last year it rained up until about 1:00pm. The high for the day was 84° which was quite pleasant for July in Oklahoma. It was good that Wally & Jean Dick had went down earlier in the week and reserved the pavillion. Thanks Wally & Jean.

The club supplied hamburgers, hot dogs, hot links, chips, & condiments. Prez Cody Reese handled the cooking, thanks Cody. Thanks again to John & Jody Hamilton for storing and trucking the club gas grill & tables to the site. There were 37 members standing in line to chow down on burgers, hot dogs, hot links, and food brought by club members. There was a GREAT selection of side dishes brought by club members. Thanks again to all those bringing the outstanding side dishes and desserts. If you went away hungry at this outing, again it was your own fault.

In addition to the food the club supplies the board has also voted to purchase $400.00 in Silver coins to be used for each of this seasons water outings. After the big feed 224 tokens were scattered as evenly as possible in a 60 yard X 40 yard designated area. There were 7 tokens for club member donated prizes, 5 tokens for Silver Half Dollars, 12 tokens for Silver Quarters & 200 tokens for Silver Mercury Dimes. Tokens were painted Wheat Cents, painted pull tabs, and lettered Gallagher Civil War Minié balls. When the start signal was given there were 22 water hunters frothing the water. After 1 hour+ of hunting, there were only 7 dime tokens that were not recovered, which is outstanding for this campground area.

Member donated prizes: Larry Light donated by Wally Dick won by Chris Willaby. Larry Light donated by Wally Dick won by John Freeman. Backpack donated by Jim Dill won by Ken Fanning. Organizer & LT magazine donated by Ken Fanning won by Jean Dick. $5.00 donated by John Hamilton won by Jan Doye. $5.00 Walmart card donated by Bill Rouse won by Bill Rouse (this is the 2nd time he’s done this). LT magazines donated by Bill Watkins won by Cody Reese. Thanks to all that donated.

Some of the higher totals found were: Bill Rouse 1 Silver Half, 1 Silver Quarter, 26 Silver Mercury Dimes, & token for a $5.00 Walmart card. Wally Dick 1 Silver Half & 21 Silver Mercury Dimes. Bob Cook 20 Silver Mercury Dimes. John Freeman 1 Silver Half, 1 Silver Quarter, 15 Silver Mercury Dimes, & a token for a Larry Light. Ken Fanning 1 Silver Quarter, 14 Silver Mercury Dimes, & a token for a backpack. John Hamilton 2 Silver Quarters & 10 Silver Mercury Dimes. Jody Groover 2 Silver Quarters & 8 Silver Mercury Dimes. Kim Hauger 2 Silver Quarters & 7 Silver Mercury Dimes. Daniel Parker 1 Silver Half & 8 Silver Mercury Dimes. Lloyd Coke 9 Silver Mercury Dimes. Chris Willaby 1 Silver Quarter & 7 Silver Mercury Dimes.

Wally Dick had found a 14K White Gold ring hunting in the area on Saturday. There were several “Maverick” coins found during the seeded hunt on Sunday. And there were 8-10 old painted Wheat Cents from outings in years past.

Jody Hamilton & Denali had a 50/50 raffle going. Bill Rouse won $49.00 on the 50/50 draw, Wally Dick won a ballcap donated by Sidney & Mary Luckies & Jody Hamilton won a ballcap donated by the Luckies.

All in all everybody had a good time. Again, one of the main reasons for this type of outing, besides the food of course, is to give non-water hunting members a chance to try their hand at it. Also, the fun and fellowship of being with people that enjoy the same hobby.

Again, if you missed this outing, you missed a great one. Don’t miss the next one!
